12 Energy Saving Tips

12 Energy Saving Tips

  1. Replace your filter every month. This will help your unit run more efficiently and last longer. One way to help you remember to change your filter is to replace it every time you pay your electric bill.
  2. Keep doors and register vents closed in guest rooms and other areas that are not in use. Open them a day or two before guests come to visit.
  3. Installing ceiling fans in your home can help circulate cool air through the house, which will allow you to keep your thermostat setting a little higher.
  4. Having tinted window film applied to your windows can help keep out the heat on hot days and will help insulate your windows for the cold days. West facing windows are the most critical.
  5. Window coverings, like curtains, blinds, shutters, or shades can also help keep out the sun’s hot rays, as well as help block cold drafts on cool days.
  6. Regularly get your system’s maintenance checks done.
  7. Check seals and caulking around windows and exit doors, both inside and outside. Replace as needed.
  8. Replacing old windows with double pained, energy efficient windows can cut costs for both heating and cooling.
  9. Add 3 to 6 inches of insulation to your attics, depending on how much is currently in place.
  10. Having an attic fan with a thermostat switch installed in your attic can also help your house stay cooler and your air conditioning run less.
  11. Upgrading your thermostat to a unit with a timer to adjust the temperature in your home while you are away, can help save heating and cooling costs when used properly.
  12. Upgrading your air conditioning system to a high efficiency unit can save you a great deal of money in the long run.
